ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business

The ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business is a globally recognised award at Level 6 equivalent of the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ). The course is targeted at those in employment who wish to reskill or upskill, Returners and those who wish to re-enter the workforce. The programme provides learners with the fundamental knowledge principles, a broad introduction to financial and management accounting, knowledge of business and its operating environment. Finally it introduces the core principles of ethics and professionalism through the use of the Foundations of a professional case study.

Business and Technology

AIM – To introduce knowledge and understanding of the business and its environment and the influence that this has on how organisations are structured and on the role of the accounting and other key business functions in contributing to it’s efficient, effective and ethical management.

Syllabus includes:
1.Leading & Managing individuals and teams
2.Personal effectiveness and communication
3.Professional ethics in accounting and business.

Management Accounting

AIM – To develop knowledge and understanding of management accounting techniques to support management in planning, controlling and monitoring performance in a variety of business contexts.

Syllabus includes:
1. The nature, source and purpose of management information
2. Cost accounting techniques
3. Budgeting
4. Standard costing
5. Performance measurement.

Financial Accounting

AIM – To develop knowledge and understanding of the underlying principles and concepts relating to financial accounting and technical proficiency in the use of double entry accounting techniques including the preparation of basic financial statements.

Syllabus includes:
1. The context and purpose of financial reporting
2. The qualitative characteristics of financial information
3. The use of double-entry and accounting systems
4. Recording transactions and events
5. Preparing financial

 

No previous academic or accountancy qualifications are required to study for this qualification and is suitable for those aspiring to work or already working in the following types of roles:
1. Basic Bookkeeping
2. Trainee accountant in a commercial organisation or accounting practice
3. Accounts clerk in the Public Sector

Students who successfully complete the Diploma in Accounting and Business via the Foundation Level route can then transfer to the ACCA qualification.
